This is a great book for new managers! Deborah Avrin covers management in an easy-to-understand style which makes the book an excellent resource. In the chapters on company expectations, knowing companions, and license to manage she covers fundamentals that should be in every company’s supervisor training and manager orientation materials. The book goes beyond fundamentals to the importance of teamwork, collaboration, and coaching for employee involvement or performance improvement. It includes pitfalls new managers may encounter with delegation, work processes, and change management. What I liked most about “The Management Map: Navigating Tools for the New Manager” was the key points from each chapter as a personal checklist for development planning with ideas for training if a need is identified.
